The best ways to save money on lunch are actually simple in concept and easy to execute. It all comes down to what you eat, where you eat and how much you eat.
Where You Eat
There are always plenty of places to eat around your office. Entrepreneurs know that not everyone packs their lunch and will be heading outside to eat. So they set up eating places around crowded offices and offer their services to lunch seeking workers.
You should do a survey on places to eat around your office, their prices, servings and quality of the food. If you got time to walk 10 minutes further to eat a cheap spot, then do so rather than go to a nearby expensive restaurant for lunch.
You can even take away your lunch when you are driving down to work. You might pass by some bakery shop and take away some food which will be eaten during lunch.
What You Eat
Good and expensive food is always a temptation and people always succumb to them. The sweet cheese cake that melts in your mouth and the pan fried fish covered with garden herbs are always hard to pass on. As good as they taste, they also add unnecessary expenses to your lunch tab.
You should have a simple but filling lunch and not aiming for quality food at all. A Subway sandwich with some orange juice is filling enough for your stomach. Skip the sweet desserts and have some fruits instead. They are more worth it than some ice cream and healthier too.
How Much You Eat
When you are hungry, you will feel that your appetite is large enough to eat a lot more than you really can. The truth is what you need to eat for lunch depends on what kind of job you have. If you have an office desk and paper jobs then you don’t need a lot of carbohydrate and less meat. People who do hard labor at construction sites will need more meat for that extra protein.
Another reason why you shouldn’t stuff yourself up during lunch is because it can lower your work productivity. The more you eat, the more energy will be transferred to your stomach to handle the digestion process. This will leave you to be sleepier throughout the whole day. What you can do to avoid this is to eat a small lunch and take another break for tea. Smaller and frequent meals are healthier than eating one large meal by itself.
